One of my favorite Chinese dishes.
I can’t take credit for this recipe, it came from a box mix I found at H-Mart. But this is one of the better box mixes I’ve come across for mapo tofu.
You'll need:
- 1 cup white rice
- 2oz meat of choice - I used Gardein ground be’f
- 1 block (14oz) tofu - I used firm
- 1/2 cup frozen peas
- 1 box house foods mapo tofu mix
- opt. chili or hot oil
Instructions:
- Make rice in a rice cooker according to instructions
- Cook protein in a pan with some oil
- Add tofu and box sauce, mix well, bring to simmer
- Mix in peas, add water to desired consistency
- Serve over rice with hot oil
House Foods brand “Mabo” Tofu sauce
This is the best mix I’ve found so far. Spiciness is barely there, only slightly numbing - but that means I can tailor it to my taste. Or in this case leave it up to the person plating it. My wife kept the hot oil out, but I added a ton.
