Budget charcuterie plate

Summer sausage, pepperoni, vegan field sausage, sharp cheddar cheese, jalapeno stuffed green olives, black olives, Kalamata olives, and Ritz crackers.

My wife called this the dollar store charcuterie board, which offended me. The Kalamata olives and vegan sausage definitely weren’t from the dollar store! Still tasty.

Scallion Sichuan Noodles and Fried Tofu Kimbap from Costco

A Costco finally opened within 30 minutes of me, so I had to scope out the noodle situation. I was not disappointed with the selection at all! We stocked up on a bunch of essential noodles and Asian goodies. My first lunch from the Costco haul was the PaMi Zeng Scallion Sichuan Pepper noodles. The instructions on these said to cook them in boiling water, but I went the lazy route and microwaved them for 8 minutes in a giant container to avoid spillovers. The noodle texture was great this way - nice and chewy but easy enough to bite through. The sauce though, wow! My lips were tingling and my tongue was slightly numb, but I couldn't put the bowl down from start to finish. These were gone in less than 2 minutes. For reference I used the entire pepper sauce packet and added some sliced green onions. To eat with the noodles I added a roll of the frozen pre-sliced kimbap. Super easy as well, microwave for 2 and a half minutes and let it cool. I ate this with some soy sauce mixed...

McDonald's Chicken Big Mac

Oh yeah baby. I saw something like this on a business trip in India years ago, and I was so excited to hear it was coming stateside. Review I hope this isn't truly for a limited time only. Just look at that picture. There are no filters here. No wide angle tricks. I opened the box and for the first time in a long time was greeted by something that actually resembled the stock photos! Excuse my mostly eaten fries in the background of course, I was here for the sandwich. Let's get to it. Presentation: 9/10 My local McDonald's knocked this one out of the park. Bun was perfectly toasted and warm, the patties were perfectly crisp, even the lettuce was fresh. The sauce and cheese were placed directly in the center - no sliding and wrangling of this double meat monstrosity today. Taste: 8/10 Straight up chicken nugget patties. That's a good thing if you like McDonald's nuggets. It blends well with the Big Mac sauce and pickles, and had a very nice texture. Value: 8/10 Bet...

Fried fish, salad, and cheesy rice

When your wife says "I'm craving fried fish" and you remember that frozen block of fillets in the freezer from a fishing trip 3 months ago. Add some salad topped with pickled veggies and a bag mix of cheesy broccoli rice, and you've got a nice meal. Not a clean one, or a healthy one, but a tasty one. Not much of a recipe this time, but I'll summarize. The fish: take some thin fillets of whatever you've got (in this case catfish, flounder, and croaker), toss them in some fish fry, and fry them up. The salad: shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, pickled carrots, pickled cucumber, pickled garlic, salt, and pepper. The rice: open a bag mix, make according to the package instructions. Not fancy today. Add some toast to make a quick fish sandwich with mayo, and serve with ketchup. Only a few arteries were harmed during the creation and consumption of this meal.
